The Salvation Army Fan drive
Salvation Army, Westlake Ace Hardware hold annual fan drive
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - There was a hamburger and hot dog party in west Wichita to raise money to help families in need beat the heat on Saturday. The Salvation Army and Westlake Ace Hardware had their annual fan drive today. There were hamburgers, hot dogs and ice cold drinks available for a donation.
While the Salvation Army gave away hundreds of fans earlier this week, those manning the grills know there's more there that need relief from the heat. "They're trying to raise 500 box fans for the needy," said Larry Shannon, director of American Legion Riders Post #4. "Everything we have today has all been donated, so 100% of the money we collect will go toward those fans."
They were asking for a $5 donation for the food, but they say many gave more than that in order to help the needy.
